Menstruation Myths

Here are some of the myths:

  1. It always comes on ‘that time of the month’

Fact: Although it is widely known that a woman’s menstrual cycle lasts 28 days, that is only an average number. Some women’s cycles are much longer, from 29 to 35 days, while others can be shorter.

  1. Period pain is not as serious as other kind of pain

Fact:  About 20% of the women have dysmenorrhea that is severe enough to interfere with their daily activities. This could affect their ability to concentrate well.

Fact: Period blood is very different from blood that moves continuously through the veins. In reality, it is less concentrated blood and has fewer blood cells than ordinary blood.

  1. Women cannot take baths during menstruation

Fact: While hot water can help stimulate blood flow, this can help relieve menstrual cramps and relieve muscular tension. Bleeding does not stop following full immersion in water. However, the pressure from the water may temporarily prevent the blood from flowing out of the vagina.

  1. Tampon can break hymen

Fact: As the hymen is stretchy, inserting an object as small as a tampon will not cause any tears. And since, during menstruation, the blood lubricates the vagina, inserting a tampon should not be uncomfortable if using the correct way.
